Over 140 stalls at PU book fair
LAHORE: Preparations for Pakistan's largest book fair being organised by Punjab University administration have reached the peak as more than 140 national and international publishers have been allotted stalls through balloting.
In this regard, a meeting of the Book Fair Coordination Committee was held under the chairmanship of Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood to review all arrangements.
On this occasion, heads of various committees’ members were present. In his address, Dr Khalid Mahmood instructed the officials to take the best steps for the book fair. He said that the PU’s incumbent administration would make Pakistan's biggest book fair a success as usual. He said that books would be provided at special discounted prices to the participants of the book fair.
UVAS Spring Festival starts
The 11th Spring Festival 2024 began at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) here on Monday. On the first day, different competitions, including Azaan and Hifz-e-Quran were arranged by the Qiraat & Naat Society of UVAS Senior Tutor Office.
In Hifz-e-Quran competition, Hafiza Umama Iqbal (Human Nutrition & Dietetics) bagged the first position, Hafiz Muhammad Shakir (MPhil Epidemology) was second while Ayesha Kanwal (MPhil Veterinary Medicine) stood on third position.
In the Azaan competition, Abdul Rehman (DVM) bagged the first position, Ahmad Ali Khan was second while Zain-ul-Abdin from (Institute of Pharmaceutical Science) stood on the third position.
Qari Abdul Ghaffar Daharvee and Qari Faseeh ud Din Aadil were the chief guests on the occasion and gave away shields to the Azaan & Hifz-e-Quran contest winners while Prof Dr Yasin Tipu, Dr Muhammad Asad Ali, Syed Ahtasham Bukhari and students were present in the ceremony.
Meanwhile, the Vets Care Club of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) organised the 3rd Pets Gala & Panchi Mela in City Campus Main Lawn here on Monday. Beautiful birds like colourful parrots, owls and different species of dogs, cats and reptiles (snake, chameleon, mongoose & turtle) were brought in the event. Students and children took selfies with the pets. At the end of the event Ms Humaira Laghari distributed shields among the pet owners who won beauty and hygienic competitions.
