Events arranged to mark Chinese New Year

PESHAWAR: Colorful events were arranged here at the China Window — Chinese Cultural Centre — to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Caretaker Provincial Minister for Transport Zafarullah Khan, Minister for Energy and Planning Dr Syed Sarfraz Ali Shah, President of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Fuad Ishaq, Chairperson of Pakistan Academy of Letters Dr Najiba Arif, Additional Inspector General of Police Muhammad Ali Babakhel, former world squash champion Qamar Zaman and others were there.

The paintings drawn by the students of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s University related to Chinese culture were exhibited. Local singers performed and greeted their Chinese sisters and brothers on the occasion of Chinese New Year. The provincial ministers said the friendship between China and Pakistan was eternal. They said the celebration of the Chinese New Year in Pakistan was proof that the people of Pakistan had a deep affection for the people of China.

Transport Minister Zafarullah Khan said the New Year may prove to be a year of better relations between Pakistan and China. Minister for Energy and Planning Dr Syed Sarfraz Ali Shah expressed the hope that China would continue to play a role in the economic development of Pakistan.

Fuad Ishaq said the China-Pakistan friendship was getting stronger with time as that was based on sincerity. He praised China for its role in the economic development of Pakistan.Professor Dr Najiba Arif said that China had fully cooperated with Pakistan in every field of life over the years and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was the latest proof of that.
