Nawaz Sharif suffers defeat in Mansehra

PMLN was confident that this would be smooth sailing for former PM, but Shahzada Gustasap won election with a convincing margin of over 25,000 votes

MANSEHRA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif suffered a defeat in NA-15, as Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf -backed independent Shahzada Gustasap Khan was declared winner on Friday.

The PMLN was confident that this would be smooth sailing for the former prime minister, but Shahzada Gustasap won the election with a convincing margin of over 25,000 votes.

According to results issued by RO through form-47, Gustasap Khan secured 105,249 while Nawaz Sharif could secure 80382. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz won NA-14 Mansehra-II where the former federal minister Sardar Mohammad Yousuf obtained 115,544 votes. The PTI clinched five of seven national assembly’s seats in Hazara division.

The NA-12 constituency, which is stretched over to Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan and Kolai-Palas districts is captured by Mohammad Idrees backed by the local tribal Kolai-Ittehad and was followed by the Salahuddin of JUIF. Deputy Commissioner Irfanullah Mehsud confirmed those results. The only national assembly’s constituency of Battagram NA-13 is retained by the PTI-backed Mohammad Nawaz Khan, who secured 32164 votes while his closest rival Mohammad Yousuf of JUIF secured 21291 votes.
