LAHORE : The 37th Lahore International Book Fair (LIFB 2024) started at Expo Centre here Thursday.
Muhammad Saleem Baig, Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), inaugurated the event.
Talking to the media, Saleem Baig spoke about evolving reading culture and importance of events like the book fair. He said he had attended book fairs in the past and was happy to visit the fair again.
Talking about the importance of books, he drew a parallel between the importance of water for physical well-being and the significance of book reading for mental enrichment.
He described the book fair as a vital component of the education movement and commended the organisers for creating what he referred to as an ‘education city’ within its confines. He emphasised that our connection with books should not fade in the era of technological gadgets.
The book fair's first day saw a large number of visitors who explored dozens of stalls set up at the fair. Under one roof, hundreds of books await exploration, tempting readers of all ages. From students seeking knowledge to families seeking literary treasures, the fair welcomed all.
