Critical sectors
This refers to the editorial, ‘Loadshedding’ (April 25). Although the editorial has picked up just one subject – the power sector – there are many other areas that are in a state of total disrepair and have been deteriorating fast. These are de-industrialisation, a widening technology gap, crisis in the farming sector, falling exports, unbridled imports of luxury goods, circular debt, insufficient (direct) tax collection, a yawning trade gap, current account deficit, rising debt burden and mismanagement of state-owned enterprises. These require immediate government attention.
With persons like Khawaja Asif, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Ghulam Dastagir Khan, Ahsan Iqbal and Ishaq Dar holding key portfolios, no economic improvement can be expected.
