ISLAMABAD: The Senate Committee on Maritime Affairs was convened on Thursday to discuss the crucial railway connectivity linking Gwadar Port with the ML-1 and Quetta regions.

During the deliberations, the committee instructed Pakistan Railways to promptly formulate the project’s PC-I, anticipating subsequent approval.

Officials provided comprehensive insights into upcoming rail links designed to enhance connectivity and foster development in the area.

During the session, the Senate’s Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs was apprised of the multi-phased land acquisition plan for the project. Notably, the first phase has already been completed, while the second phase is currently underway and slated for prompt completion. The significance of these rail links lies in their potential to foster development not only for Gwadar Port but also for the broader landscape of Pakistan Railways.

Recognizing the strategic importance of railway connectivity, the parliamentary panel unanimously advocated for the expeditious preparation of the project’s PC-1 by Pakistan Railways for subsequent approval.

The envisioned rail connections are poised to play a pivotal role in facilitating trade and transportation, thereby positioning Gwadar Port as a key hub in the national and international logistics network. As the project advances, it is anticipated to contribute significantly to the economic growth and strategic importance of the Gwadar region and Pakistan at large.

The panel was also briefed on the Gwadar Port Master Plan and the current status of land acquisition by the Port Authority. The Master Plan, primarily focusing on a multi-use area and port industrial zone, has seen progress with the acquisition of 2,350 acres, while an additional 19,121 acres remain to be secured.
