Modern Safe City projects play key role in crime control: IG

LAHORE:Inspector General Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has said that the Safe City projects under construction in Gujranwala, Faisalabad and other districts are equipped with latest technology and software, which play a key role in crime control, traffic management and security surveillance in these districts. He said that effective supervision should be ensured to complete these projects within the stipulated timeline.

He gave these instructions while presiding over an important meeting about development projects at the Central Police Office on Monday. In the meeting, the progress of completed Safe City projects, land acquisition for construction of new police stations, transfer of police stations on Special Initiative Protocol was reviewed.

IGP said that land is being acquired in Lahore for new police stations including Sherakot, Samanabad. Other districts should select the suitable places for construction of new police stations and sent the list to the Central Police Office. He directed all district traffic officers to self-supervise the process of issuing driving licences and said that driving licences should be issued to as many citizens as possible through effective coordination with PITB.

IGP said that legal action should be taken against those guilty of violating traffic rules without discrimination and vehicles and motorcycles guilty of violating one way should be closed. He directed the officers to complete upgradation of all police stations to SIPS protocol by December 31, e-tags must be issued and delay in registration of cases will be intolerable.

He directed that the supervisory officers should complete the construction and upgrading of all the police stations under personal supervision by providing modern resources. In the next phase, all traffic police offices, driving training centers are also being improved, he added.

Over 26,500 cops perform duty on Christmas, Quaid Day

Punjab Police teams, under the direction of IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar, ensured foolproof security arrangements for Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas celebrations across the province.

Punjab Police remained on high alert for the security of Christian places of worship, sensitive places, more than 26,500 officers and officials were deployed for the security of 3,286 churches across the province. A total of 2,335 CCTV cameras, 3,427 metal detectors and hundreds of walk-through gates were used for the security of Christian citizens. As many as 3,422 officers and officials were deployed, 271 metal detectors and 236 CCTV cameras were used for the security of 622 Christian places of worship in provincial capital. Ladies police officers were also deployed for the security of female Christian citizens.

Punjab Police had divided 3,286 churches across the province into A, B and C categories. There were 154 churches in A category, 414 in B category, 2,718 churches in C category. A total of 3,501 Christian worship programmes of A, B and C category were organised across the province.

On the instructions of IG Punjab, CCPO Lahore, all RPOs, DPOs, District Traffic Officers personally supervised the Quaid Day and Christmas security and traffic arrangements. Security of all sensitive places, parks, recreational places, consulate offices was taken care of. Supervisory officers made field visits and inspected the security arrangements and maintained peace and order throughout the province.
