UHS to open admission in Pharm-D degree programme

LAHORE:The Pharmacy Council of Pakistan has issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to initiate the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D) degree programme from this year at the College of Pharmacy, University of Health Sciences (UHS).

A UHS spokesperson said that admission for the Pharm-D programme was allowed for 100 seats. This approval was granted in the 60th meeting of the council. UHS Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore, congratulated the faculty while appreciating the efforts of Pharmacy Department's head Prof Haji Muhammad Shoaib. The VC also announced that in the upcoming days, the admissions for the five-year Doctor of Pharmacy programme would be officially opened.

Highlighting the prestige of UHS in medical education, Prof Rathore emphasised that the pharmacy programme would uphold the same high standards. He expressed that the advancement of clinical pharmacy would be given paramount importance in the implementation of this programme.

Students’ role sought in combating drug abuse

Punjab University’s Directorate of Students Affairs, Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS) and Anti-narcotics Force (ANF) jointly organised an awareness seminar ‘Role of Youth in Drug Abuse Prevention’ in the auditorium of ISCS.

ANF Punjab Regional Directorate Commander Brigadier Sikandar Hayat Chaudhary, Director Student Affairs Dr Muhammad Ali Kalasra, coordinator of ISCS Dr Navid Tahir, Dr Nauman Ali Chaudhary, Dr Ishaq, Dr Maria, Maj Nazir, Ms Sadia Shahzeb, faculty members and students attended.

Brigadier Sikandar Hayat presented the strategies for the prevention of drugs by ANF in Pakistan. He motivated the students to take initiative in prevention of drug abuse. Dr Muhammad Ali Kalasra stressed the need of academia and forces to work collaboratively to curtail the devastating effects of drug addiction in society especially on youth. Dr Navid Tahir said that the objective of the seminar was to educate the students about the harmful effects of drugs not only on youth but on society as a whole. Earlier, Brigadier Sikandar Hayat called on PU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood in his office. In the meeting, commitment was expressed to increase cooperation with each other for the creation of a drug-free society.
