Indian Premier League opening ceremony on Geo Super today

KARACHI: Geo Super being Pakistan’s first sports channel, always presents the best of the best sports action from all around the world for the sports lovers of the country, especially cricket and have already made history by presenting each and every big event of cricket in recent past.

The opening ceremony of the Indian Premier League-2016 will be bigger than ever before. Apart from some popular Bollywood celebrities, American singer Chris Brown and music group "Major Lazer" will also perform at the opening ceremony of IPL-9. Ceremony of the IPL-2016 will be held April 8 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and it will certainly be a glitzy affair.

Like in previous years, IPL-9 will also witness some flamboyant performances by a number of Bollywood celebrities during the opening ceremony. Stars like Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh, Jacqueline Fernandez and YoYo Honey Singh would be seen performing on the occasion. West Indian player Bravo also sing his famous Champions song in the ceremony.

Moreover, there would be 200 dancers, mass cast performers, folk artists and percussionists to add more entertainment to the much awaited inaugural ceremony of IPL-9. The 2016 season of the Indian Premier League will be the 9th season of the IPL, a Twenty20 cricket league. The season will have two new teams which will replace the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals, which will remain suspended for two years, up to 2017. 

Two new franchise-based teams, namely Gujarat Lions & Rising Pune Supergiant’s based on the cities Rajkot & Pune respectively, have been added for two years. In all there will be 60 matches in IPL which include 56 group stage matches and 4 play-off matches.

The IPL's important element which is why it is famous among the cricket lovers is the participation of cricket stars from almost all the cricket playing nations. Like previous years, this year too, IPL franchises have grabbed famous names from different countries for their overseas player’s category.

Teams are Dehli Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Royal Chanllengers Banglore, Rising Pune Supergiants, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujrat Lions.
