Departments asked to improve performance

Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Saeed has directed heads of all provincial departments to resolve problems of people on priority and improve public service delivery.
He was chairing a meeting of Administrative Secretaries' Committee at Civil Secretariat on Monday. The meeting paid rich tribute to Khizar Hayat Gondal for his services as Chief Secretary.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Secretary Zahid Saeed said law and order, provision of health and education facilities is top priority of the government. He directed that all development projects be completed on time, adding that delay in completion of uplift schemes would not be tolerated. He also ordered the authorities to take special steps for improving security of schools, colleges, education institutes, parks, hospitals and other public places.
He said that all departments should extend full cooperation to Punjab Overseas Pakistanis Commission for resolving problems of Pakistani expatriates. He ordered that anti-dengue campaign be continued in a vigorous manner besides ensuring timely implementation of directions issued in this regard. He directed that all arrangements to cope with possible floods be completed timely.
The secretaries congratulated Capt (R) Zahid Saeed on his appointment as Chief Secretary Punjab. Those among present were: Additional Chief Secretary Shumail Khwaja, Chairman Planning and Development Board Jahanzeb Khan.
PEF: The Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has announced the next phase of textbooks distribution among school partners belonging to the areas of Pakpattan, Vehari, Dunyapur, Jalalpur Pirwala, Burewala and Jatoi.
According to the plan, 95,718 textbooks will be distributed in 88 partner schools of Arifwala and Pakpattan tehsils, 73,441 books in 72 schools of Vehari and 60,578 books in 49 partnering schools of Dunyapur on April 7. Similarly, 54 partner schools of Burewala will get 75,310 textbooks and 61 school partners of Jalalpur Pirwala will be given 72,117 textbooks on April 8. Meanwhile, 84,520 textbooks will be given to 56 partner schools of Jatoi tehsil on the same day.
UVAS: The Senior Tutor office of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) arranged a spring festival 2016 with the theme of ‘Celebrate Spring and Adding Colors in Life’. Various competitions naat-qiraat, quiz, scientific modal/poster were held in connection with the spring festival on Monday.
According to a press release issued here, in qiraat competition male category, Hafiz Muhammad Zaid (DVM) got first position, Hafiz Abdullah (IPS) got second position, Hafiz Muhammad Rauf (IBBT) got third position while in female category Hafiza Ayesha (IPS) got first position, Bisma Idrees (Microbiology) got second position and Taila Arif (DND) stood third.
In naat competition, male category, Umair Hussain (DVM) got first position Mehmood Raza (MBA) got second and Rehan Ashraf (DVM) got third position while in female category Maria Idrees (ES) got first position, Lubaba Shamim (DND) got second position, Mishi Khan (DND) stood third.
In scientific modal competition, Areeba & Group/Adeel Manzoor got first position, Abdur Rehman & Group/Mohsin Shad & Group got second and Rana Zahid/Talal & Hasan stood third. In poster competition, Amina & Group/Asma & Group got first position, M Hassan & Group/Umair got second and Ahmad Ali/Abubakar stood third.
In quiz competition, Faisal Aslam/Hafiz Arqam Mahmood Team (IBBT) got 1st position, Arqam Bilal/Muhammad Zeeshan (IPS) team got 2nd position while Muhammad Faisal/Zeeshan Iftikhar (DVM) team stood third.
Naat Khavan Akhtar Hussain was the chief guest and gave away shields and cash prizes among the qiraat contest winners while UVAS Senior Tutor Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf distributed cash prizes and certificates among the scientific modal/poster contest winners. A large number of students, faculty members, dean and directors were present in the event. Students from various departments of UVAS participated in these competitions.
