Justice Faisal Arab sworn in as SHC CJ
Says LEAs responsible for controlling law and order situation

KARACHI: Senior judge of the Sindh High Court Justice Faisal Arab took oath as the Chief Justice of the SHC on Tuesday.
Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ibad Khan administered the oath to the newly-appointed Chief Justice at the Sindh High Court in an impressive ceremony. The ceremony was attended by the judges of the Sindh High Court, Chief Minster Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, federal and provincial law officers, representatives of Bar associations and others.
Talking to journalists after the oath-taking ceremony, Chief Justice Faisal Arab said that corruption in the subordinate judiciary will not be tolerated and strict action would be taken against officers if found involved in any misconduct and corruption.
He said controlling the law and order situation is the responsibility of the law enforcement agencies. He said the judiciary was facing several challenges. He criticised lawyers’ strikes in courts and said that it would further delay the process of justice.
He said that majority of judicial officers are honest and hardworking but the institution was defamed due to act of some corrupt officers.
Justice Arab, who was elevated to a judge of SHC in October 2005, said that the judiciary was facing several problems, including a shortage of judges. Chief Justice of Sindh High Court Justice Faisal Arab can still work as the chief of the special court set up to try Pervez Musharraf under the high treason case after becoming the chief justice of SHC.

Born on Nov 5, 1955, the chief justice received his early education from Gulistan Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai in Karachi. Later, he earned his graduation degree from the Government College of Commerce & Economics in 1978. He joined the law profession in 1989 after completing LLB from the Sindh Muslim Law College and did an internship at Fakhruddin G Ibrahim and Company. He worked as associate advocate for labour cases at a law firm from Feb 1990 to October 1990. He established Faisal Arab & Associates in Nov 2000 after working as associate advocate at Fakhruddin G Ibrahim and Company from 1990 to 2000.
He worked as a standing council for the Federation of Pakistan from 2004 to 2005. He was appointed as apermanent judge at the Sindh High Court on Oct 25, 2006 and took oath as the chief justice of Sindh High Court on Feb 17, 2015. He enrolled for subordinate courts in 1990, for SHC in 1992 and for Supreme Court in 2005.
Chief Justice SHC Faisal Arab belongs to Badin’s Matli area. He was among those judges who had refused to take oath under the PCO after imposition of Nov 2007 emergency.
Justice Faisal Arab is also the chief of the special court set up on the order of Supreme Court to try Pervez Musharraf under the high treason case.
