ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-i-Azam (PML-Q) leader Pervez Elahi has claimed that former chief of the army staff Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, who was then the head of the ISI, had asked his party to attack the-then chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhry’s convoy.
In an interview with a private TV channel, the former chief minister of Punjab said he had received a letter from Gen Kayani to stop the convoy of Iftikhar Chaudhry near Jhelum and ask the PML-Q activists to attack it at Kharian if it moved ahead. He said they refused to do so.
Replying to a question, he said he still had that letter with him. Elahi said he had also told the former president Pervez Musharraf that attacking the convoy was not right. He said Musharraf had admitted his mistake of making a deal with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), bypassing the PML-Q leadership. He said they always supported Musharraf and were penalised for it.
Responding to a question about rigging in general polls, Elahi said they had asked Imran Khan to speak about the entire country instead of only four constituencies.Commenting on the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, he said she was murdered during a caretaker set-up, adding that no FIR was registered against him regarding her allegations against him. He challenged Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to have a debate with him over the performance of PML-N and PML-Q governments in the Punjab.
