Angelina Jolie shares why 'Couture' holds special meaning for her
'Couture' is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 26
Angelina Jolie looked stunning in a strapless black dress as she made a striking appearance at a screening of her new film, Couture, on Tuesday in NYC.
The 51-year-old Hollywood diva was seen greeting fans outside The Whitby Hotel before heading inside for the event.
In Couture, Angelina portrays an American filmmaker who is battling breast cancer.
This role holds personal significance for Angelina, as her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died of ovarian and breast cancer in 2007.
The Maleficent actress later underwent a preventive double mastectomy after discovering that she carried the BRCA1 gene mutation.
Speaking to People magazine at the event, Angelina described the movie as “a beautifully written piece about women from different countries.”
“It has something to say that I thought could be useful to people, showing how everyone is dealing with things that make us very human, and that if we can figure out how to live through challenges by leaning on each other and having more empathy towards one another, the better and less alone we will be,” she said.
“I am not sure I was strong enough even five years ago to do this. To be open and trusting to share and be vulnerable again,” admitted Angelina. “Things happen in life that take us off path. We lose ourselves and we feel isolated.”
The Maria actress then honored her late mother.
“I would have given anything to have my mother alive to be there for her grandchildren,” she said.
For those unversed, Couture is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 26.
