Canada vs Bosnia ends in dramatic World Cup draw after Cyle Larin equaliser
The draw gives Canada a valuable point but leaves the co-hosts still searching for their first World Cup victory
Canada earned their first-ever FIFA World Cup point after battling back to secure a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in a lively Group B clash on Friday..
Bosnia took the lead in the 21st minute when Jovo Lukic scored his first international goal, guiding home a flick-on from a corner as the team marked their return to the World Cup after a 12-year absence.
Canada responded with relentless pressure but struggled with Richie Laryea coming closest in the 53rd minute, only for Bosnia defender Sead Kolasinac to ruin his effort.
The hosts continued to dominate possession and attack in front of a loud home crowd dressed in red, but Bosnia looked set to hold on for victory.
Substitute Cyle Larin changed the game moments after coming on in the 76th minute, firing a deflected effort to level the match and spark celebrations inside the stadium.
Jonathan David had earlier missed a clear opportunity for Canada, while Bosnia nearly doubled their advantage through Ermedin Demirovic before goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau made an important save on his World Cup debut.
The draw gives Canada a valuable point but leaves the co-hosts still searching for their first World Cup victory.
