Buckingham palace shares update on King Charles meeting with Catherine Connolly
King Charles welcomed President of Ireland at Buckingham Palace
King Charles received a special visit from the Irish President Catherine Connolly.
During her official visit to London and Leeds this week, the President of Ireland visited the King at Buckingham palace.
The official Instagram handle of the British royal family posted a photo of King Charles shaking hands and smiling for the camera with President Catherine.
It is pertinent to mention that the trip marks Catherine's first official visit to England since her inauguration in November. Her visit began on Monday with a trip to the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith, west London.
During her speech at the Irish Cultural Centre, Catherine Connolly said, "The Irish contribution to British society is as diverse as can be imagined."
Adding, "From the arts and culture, to healthcare, education, construction and infrastructure, as well as professional, scientific and technical services. Indeed, there is hardly a sector of the economy or an area of life that has not been touched by the Irish here in Britain."
"Historically, modern-day immigration was driven by economic factors, with large numbers leaving Ireland for London, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and elsewhere," she continued.
"This occurred in waves and we know that from the 19th century and the 20th century, and unfortunately today as well, we have people leaving our shores for various reasons, but some of them for lack of housing," the president noted.
Furthermore, the Irish president's visit comes after King Charles and Queen Camilla's state visit to the USA.
