The clip from Harry and Meghan's wedding has garnered more than 12 million views on X
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding clip has been used for engagement farming on X, formerly Twitter.
The video of the couple, which has garnered over 12 million views, was shared by the user Matt Wallace with the caption, "If anyone can successfully copy the link on this post I will buy you a Tesla."
The clip aims to create a false impression that Queen Elizabeth, Princess Anne, Kate Middleton and other royals were shocked during the ceremony. The clip also contains a glimpse of Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie's wedding but it primarily focuses on Harry and Meghan.
However, the lie was exposed by X team with a Readers added context. "He is trying to do engagement farming . We can still copy the link of every video on X, said the note under Matt Wallace post.
It came a day after, a large number of X users complained they were unable to copy video links, with many sharing memes and conspiracy theories about why the issue was occurring.
According to a social media expert, X has updated its mobile app, making it harder for users to directly copy links to videos and sparking online complaints.
He said the interface change has triggered conspiracy theories claiming censorship and content suppression.
However, the feature has not been removed. Users can still copy links to posts containing videos via the Share icon and selecting “Copy link to Post.”
