Prince Andrew gives £558k damages to Royal Lodge before leaving
Andrew’s transition covered by King’s wallet, not the Duchy
Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s exit from Royal Lodge is set to hit his wallet harder than expected.
The former prince, now an ordinary citizen, faces losing the bulk of his £558,000 compensation package after handing back the keys to the 30-room Windsor Great Park mansion, with extensive repair bills poised to slash the final payout.
Sources told Gb News, the sprawling residence is in dire need of TLC, and the Crown Estate is expected to deduct heavily for renovations before handing over the remainder.
Despite the hit to his compensation, Andrew will still pocket a separate six-figure sum to cover moving costs as he transitions to his new life away from royal privileges.
Andrew will see much of his compensation slashed after vacating Royal Lodge, with repair bills for the historic 1815 John Nash designed property eating into the payout.
Current photos reveal peeling paint and signs of neglect on the Grade-II listed mansion, and sources confirm deductions will cover essential restoration.
The payments, coming from King Charles’ personal funds rather than the Duchy of Lancaster’s £27 million annual revenue, are intended to smooth Andrew’s transition from a life of royal privileges.
His move to a more modest Norfolk estate at Sandringham is scheduled for early next year, ending decades of residency at Windsor and following Charles’ formal removal of his princely title and Duke of York designation.
Originally leased in 2003, Royal Lodge came with a £1 million upfront payment and “one peppercorn” annual rent if requested, plus £7.5 million in renovations by 2005.
Maintenance clauses required exterior repainting every five years, interior redecoration every seven, and careful upkeep of the 7 bedroom home, tasks that clearly fell behind over time.
