Joe Jonas shares how touring affects dating life
Joe Jonas reflects on meeting ‘someone for coffee’ during tough touring routine
Joe Jonas is opening up about how life on the road has shaped his approach to dating.
The 36-year-old singer, who’s currently performing on the Jonas Brothers’ JONAS20: Greetings from Your Hometown Tour, admitted that finding time for romance isn’t easy when you’re constantly traveling.
“Five shows in a row doesn’t make it easy to meet someone for coffee,” Jonas told Esquire in a new interview alongside his brothers Nick and Kevin.
While he doesn’t use traditional dating apps, Jonas said he still connects with people online in a more organic way.
“I guess Instagram and TikTok are apps, and I’ve met people that way,” he shared, noting that social media has become his main avenue for meeting new people.
Jonas, who was previously married to actress Sophie Turner, shares two daughters with her — Willa, 5, and Delphine, 3. He filed for divorce in September 2023 after four years of marriage, and the split was finalized a year later.
Opening up about the challenges of dating again after divorce, Jonas shared earlier this year that the experience felt “scary and intimidating.”
During a TalkShopLive stream in May, he revealed that his song Only Love was inspired by something someone he was seeing at the time said to him.
“I was seeing somebody at the time and I was kind of having this idea of dating again. It was really scary and intimidating,” he explained. “Love takes different shapes and forms and I was re-discovering what that was.”
He recalled that the person he was dating lightheartedly told him, “Well, it’s only love,” which ultimately became the inspiration for the track.
“I was like, ‘Well, when you put it that way…’ So we wrote a song about it,” he said.
“Like, it was not a big deal, but it was a big deal to me, and a big deal to them, too. But it’s okay to take a leap of faith and just try again and put yourself out there.”
Despite navigating the highs and lows of his personal life, Jonas said he’s grateful for the strong co-parenting relationship he shares with Turner.
Speaking during Jay Shetty’s On Purpose Live Tour in Florida earlier this year, he expressed admiration for her as a mother.
“I have a beautiful co-parenting relationship that I’m really grateful for,” he said. “Having an incredible mom, Sophie, for those girls is like a dream come true.”
He added that he hopes his daughters grow up with confidence and compassion.
“As young girls, looking up to great women is what I want for them,” Jonas shared.
“I think what values I want for them are to be open-minded and have a big heart, be able to walk into any room and feel confidence, and know that they can do literally anything they want.”
The Jonas Brothers’ JONAS20 tour continues through December, and fans can also look forward to seeing the trio on-screen when A Very Jonas Christmas Movie premieres on Disney+ on November 14.
