Princess Eugenie was lauded for a bold step that she had taken for one of the most important days in her life, serving as an inspiration for many others.

The daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, who suffered from scoliosis and had to undergo surgery at the age of 12, has a prominent scar on her back from it.

Just months after the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the summer, Eugenie tied the knot with her now-husband, Jack Brooksbank, in October 2018 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.

She wore a stunning Peter Pilotto dress that purposefully revealed her scar, to honour those who had helped her and inspire others with the condition of scoliosis.

Recently, Eugenie was delighted to learn that she had inspired and given someone the courage to follow in her footsteps. While having a chat about Scoliosis Awareness Month 2025, spinal physiotherapist, Emily Hale, revealed that she was getting married in September and she is also planning on revealing her surgery scar in her wedding dress.

“I thought it was just the most amazing thing that you were able to showcase it in your wedding dress,” she told Eugenie. “I thought that was so powerful and people talked to me about it all the time. It’s clearly made a massive impact on lots of people and you’ve really inspired me to do the same.”

Emily added that she has made sure to “get[her] scar out”.

In response, Eugenie was pleasantly surprised – gasping and politely clapping—and claimed that this was the first time someone had reached out to her for something like this.

“That is so cool, you’re getting married in September. Well done!” she said. “And you get to wear a scar on show, that’s awesome.”

She continued, “Well, you’re the one of the first people that like, is actually, now getting married wearing a scar on show – that has actually spoken to me about it.”

The chat comes just a month after Eugenie got candid about her health struggles in an interview with The Telegraph. She credited her mother, Sarah Ferguson for being “amazing” and boosting her morale after surgery.

“She’d ask me if she could show it to people, then she’d turn me around and say, ‘my daughter is superhuman, you’ve got to check out her scar’. All of sudden it was a badge of honour – a cool thing I had. It trained my brain that it’s ok, scars are cool,” she told the outlet. “It became a positive memory, a part of me, that I could do something with in the future. I could help heal other people.”
