A serious negligence on part of the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) was observed on Friday as motorists were caught up in jam-packed traffic at Club Road, Taramari Chowk, Rawal Chowk, Islamabad Expressway, Park Road, Kashmir Highway and Murree Road.
Dozens of ambulances and vehicles of 'Rescue 1122' were also caught up in traffic jams.
The main reason behind traffic jams was that Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan wanted to address public at Taramari Chowk, but the Islamabad administration did not allow him to do so. The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) closed the majority of roads and U-turns with barricades on Friday. The helpless motorists were stuck up for a long time.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tahir Alam took serious notice of the situation. He monitored all situation and ordered traffic police to streamline the flow of traffic immediately. He ordered police to run traffic on alternative routes.
People had to face a great deal of difficulty when the Islamabad Traffic Police blocked all major roads in the twin cities.
There were long queues of vehicles at Kashmir Highway, Park Road, Club Road, Rawal Chowk, Islamabad Expressway and Murree Road. The motorists had to wait for hours in the traffic jam to reach their destinations.
Talking to ‘The News,’ Muhammad Imran, a motorist at Kashmir Highway, said that if at all it was necessary to close the roads, the ITP should have made alternative arrangements so that motorists could have been spared the nerve-breaking traffic jams. “I am stuck up in traffic jam for two hours,” he claimed.
Sajida Kanwal, another motorist, said that the residents had to face great inconvenience due to protest demonstrations and public rallies in different parts of the city as the ITP blocked different roads. She said that there should be an end to this culture.
