An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday remanded a man facing charges of killing 17 people to police custody for seven days.
The suspect, Kamran alias Munna, appeared before the judge after his 90-day detention by the paramilitary Rangers ended.
During the interrogation, the accused, said to be affiliated with a political party, was questioned by a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) and said to have confessed to killing 17 people.
The court sought the JIT report and after its perusal remanded Kamran to the Napier police for further questioning.
Two terrorists convicted
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday awarded 21 years’ imprisonment to a terror accused while a local court sentenced a woman to five years in jail in illegal arms case.
Naimullah Niazi was arrested by Preedy police station and the prosecution proved the charges against him for having possessed huge explosive material for terrorist activities.
Meanwhile, Assistant Sessions Judge (East) Sarwat Sultana convicted and awarded rigorous imprisonment of five years to Shehnaz alias Fitter for having possessed an unlicensed pistol and three live cartridges.
The convict was also imposed a fine of Rs 30, 000. She was informed that in default of fine amount, she would have to face another term of one month detention.
The court declared that Shehnaz was being convicted in a case registered under FIR No 597/2013 at the Ferozabad police station on October 29, 2013. However she was also facing some other cases of robbery, attempting murder and police encounter registered under FIR No 601/2013 under Sections 23 (i) A and other relevant provisions.
