Pakistan ranks 56th among world’s best countries
LAHORE: Pakistan is ranked 56th among the 60 best countries declared by Wharton School, BAV Consulting, and the US News & World Report for the year 2016.
The ranking was evaluated on the basis of nine parameters each given a percentage weight to evaluate overall ranking. These parameters include adventure weight 3.24 percent, citizenship weight 16.95 percent, cultural influence weight 12.93 percent, entrepreneurship 17.42 percent, heritage 3.17 percent, and movers 10 percent, open for business 11.99 percent, power 7.42 percent and quality of life 16.89 percent.
A set of 65 country attributes – terms that can be used to describe a country and that are also relevant to the success of a modern nation – were identified.
Attributes by nation were presented in a survey of more than 16,000 people from across the globe where participants assessed how closely they associated one with the other. Each country was scored on each of the 65 country attributes based on a collection of individual survey responses. The Movers sub-ranking represents a version of BAV’s BrandAsset Valuator Model of Brand Building, a metric developed by BAV that is predictive of a country’s future growth in terms of gross domestic product purchasing power parity per capita.
The top ranked country was Germany followed by Canada. India was at number 22 and China at number at 17. Scores are based on scale of 1-10. In adventure Pakistan’s score was 0.1 in fun, 0.4 in scenic beauty, 0.1 in pleasant climate and 0.2 in friendliness.
In this parameter it was ranked 58 out of 60 countries.
In the parameter about citizenship it was again ranked 58 and its scores in different attributes of citizenship was 0.3 on respect of property rights, 0.3 for progressiveness, 0.3 for trust worthiness, 0.4 for gender equality, 0.3 for well distributed political power, 0.2 for care about environment, 0.3 for care about human rights and 0.2 for religious freedom.
On cultural influence it ranked 55 based on its scores on different attributes of cultural influence that included prestigious 0.5 points, culturally significant in terms of entertainment 0.3 points, fashionable 0.2 points, trendy 0.3 points, modern 0.1 points, on influential culture 0.8 points and on happiness 0.1 points.
In entrepreneurship the ranking was better at 47 out of 60 based on scores in differ4ent attributes of entrepreneurship.
It included easy access to capital where the score was 0.5 points, well developed infrastructure 0.2 points; transparent business practices 0.4 points, educated population 0.1 point, skilled labor force 0.8 points, entrepreneurial spirit 0.2 points, connected to the rest of the world 0.6 points, innovation 0.6 points, technological expertise 0.7 points and well developed legal framework 0.1 point.
On heritage Pakistan was ranked 56 based on its scores in different attributes of this parameter. Its score was 0.3 on cultural accessibility; cultural attractions 0.3 points, rich history got 1.3 points; on great food its score was 0.7 points.
On the parameter of movers its rank was higher at 36 out of 60 economies as the score on distinctive movers was 1.7, different movers were 7.4, unique movers score was 1.00 and dynamic movers score was 0.5.
On open for business Pakistan was ranked 53 out of 60 economies. Its score on corruption was 9.8, on favorable tax climate was 0.8, on bureaucratic were 5.6, on transparent government practices was 0.5 and on cheap manufacturing costs was 8.8.
Regarding the influence of power Pakistan was 16 out of 60 economies.
The score of strong military influence were 4.9, on strong international alliances 0.8, on economically influential 0.8. on political influence 1.5 and on influence of a leader 0.8.
On quality of life Pakistan was ranked 55 out of 60 economies. It scores in different attribute for quality of life included economic stability 0.1, a good job market 0.6affordability 2.4, safety 0.2, political stability 0.1, family friendly 0.2, well developed public education system 0.2, well developed public health system 0.4 and income equality 0.8.
The 60 countries that were surveyed include Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay and Vietnam. Only Nigeria, Iran, Ukraine and Algeria are ranked below Pakistan.
