KARACHI: The Canadian High Commissioner, Andrew Turner, held a brief meeting with Dr Asim Hussain before the start of the court proceedings Wednesday. Being citizen of Canada Dr Asim Hussain has sought help from the Canadian government. Canadian envoy met Dr Asim on the latter's request. Dr Asim also handed over some documents to Canadian envoy during the meeting

Earlier, Dr Asim Hussain was rushed to an Accountability Court (AC) for attending the hearing of a reference leveling allegation of corruption of around Rs462 billion against Dr Asim Hussain and others.

The investigation officer drew the attention of the court towards the record of the lands owned by Dr Asim Hussain as the same (original documents) were presented before the court by a Board of Revenue Officer, Amaduddin Chachar.

The attorneys for Dr Asim Hussain claimed that a memo prepared regarding the recovery of documents regarding the lands’ ownership was a fake one, and it was not fair to rely on the memo presented by the prosecution.

Advocate Anwar Mansoor Khan, while pleading the case of Dr Asim Hussain, said that the court must make the claims of the attorneys for Dr Asim Hussain a part of the judicial record.

He said all the documents presented by the prosecution were fake and fabricated. He further claimed that the prosecution had not showed the “seized documents” to the court as yet.

The NAB prosecutor, however, contradicted the claims, saying nothing was concealed.

He said the documents were seized in October 2015 and the same documents were presented in the court in March 2016.   He claimed that the attorneys for the accused, Dr Asim Hussain, were talking on the basis of assumptions.  The court later fixed June 13 to hear the witnesses in this case.

Later, Dr Asim Hussain, while talking to the journalists after the hearing, said the documents presented in the court had nothing to do with his ownership and were rather related to the “Takht-e-Lahore”, adding that he was facing concocted cases.
