Underage driver remanded

A Cantonment courts judicial magistrate on Thursday sent to jail on judicial remand, an underage driver, accused of killing two young motorcyclists.

North Cantonment police produced Ibrahim, said to be a 16-year old boy, before judicial magistrate. The police stated that investigation had been completed and physical custody of the accused was no more required. It has also been learnt that police informed the court that according to medical report the accused is underage. The court after hearing plea of police has sent the accused on judicial remand for 14 days. The court has also directed police to submit challan against the accused on next hearing.

Police had arrested Ibrahim after a road accident which had left two young motorcyclists dead near Fortress Stadium. The police also seized the car (LED-3767). A criminal case was registered against the driver on the complaint of the brother of one of the victims. An eyewitness told the police that a speeding car bumped into a motorcycle near Fortress Stadium as the driver tried to overtake another vehicle. As a result, two young motorcyclists sustained multiple injuries and expired on the spot. Police later identified both the victims as Abdullah Anwar and Muhammad Zaman. The bodies were handed over to their families. A police investigator said that Ibrahim along with a young woman Aleena riding in a car was going somewhere when their vehicle smashed into a motorcycle near Fortress Stadium. Police however had released the lady after initial interrogation.
