As many as 65 students of the NED University along with faculty members paid a visit to K-Electric’s Bin Qasim Power Plant (BSQP-I) and the Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) in Korangi, on Tuesday.
The group of visiting students were members of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Society of Manufacturing Engineers. The purpose of the visit was to give engineering students a practical exposure to industries.
Students were introduced to workplace safety induction and were briefed about the history of the plant along with a detailed tour. Various electrical installations, control room and monitoring rooms were also shown along with safety measures, standard operating procedures and other regulations which were followed in power plants.
One of the students, Maryam Khan, expressed the visit helped her learn a lot and gave her the opportunity to practically see everything that they were studying in theory, while Manoj Kumar believed that such visits allowed students to understand and learn practical processes which they would otherwise be unable to understand in classrooms.
The KE official stated that visits served as a platform through which knowledge could be shared regarding the procedures of how a power utility functions.
“We believe that the kind of knowledge gained through this visit will assist these passing out engineering students to gain a practical understanding of the theory they are taught in their curriculum.”
The faculty members appreciated the time and effort of KE officials and hoped to establish an a long-term collaboration with the KE.
