KU students witness training sessions at SSU headquarters

Students of the Univeristy of Karachi visited headquarters of the Special Security Unit (SSU) of the Sindh Police and witnessed training sessions of special commandos on Saturday.

Around 70 students of the Department of Criminology, KU, along with their faculty members witnessed the SSU management system with regard to counter terrorism in the country.

They were briefed by AIGP Security SSU Maqsood Ahmed about the different sections of the department and the advanced being provided training according to international standards.

“The Pakistan Army is also providing professional training in different fields to further enhance the professional techniques of commandos,” he informed the visitors.            

Ahmed also said the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) had also been setup, which was comprised of highly trained commandos equipped with modern weapons and they were capable to deal with any emergency situation.

He added that a decision had been made to establish the Counter Terrorism University under the Security Vision 2020 to facilitate students to study and research on new trends of terrorism and also the new methods to effectively counter it.

This university would also provide an opportunity to students for acquiring the knowledge about the day-to-day development and modern policing across the world, he further said.

He further informed that the United Kingdom Accreditation System (UKAS) Britain had issued an ISO certificate to the SSU for maintaining international standards in the field of counter terrorism operations and provision of foolproof security to important personalities and vital installations.               

Ahmed mentioned that the quality management and the scope of professionalism were aimed at effectively curbing the menace of terrorism prevailing in the country.
