Sindh govt notifies dissolution of assembly, cabinet
KARACHI: The Sindh government has issued formal notifications, announcing the dissolution of the Sindh Assembly and the cabinet following the completion of its five-year constitutional term, on Tuesday. However, the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah will continue to act as chief executive of the province till the finalization of the name of the acting chief minister for which consultations have been going on between the leader of the house and the leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly. In a related move the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's leader Dr Arif Alvi conveyed the name of Abdullah Hussain Haroon for the caretaker chief minister to the opposition leader. Earlier the PTI had suggested the names of former Sindh chief secretary Fazalur Rahman and Justice (retd) Amir Hani Muslim. On Monday, the Sindh chief minister and the Opposition leader had held talks for the first time to finalize the name of the candidate. Meanwhile, the notification issued by Sindh's Services, General Administration and Coordination Department about the dissolution of the Sindh cabinet says: “Consequent upon the completion of the term of Provincial Assembly of Sindh vide Notification No S LEGIS: 14(5) 2013 dated 28th May, 2018, the following ministers, advisors, special assistants & coordinators to chief minister, Sindh have ceased to hold their respective offices” . The Sindh chief secretary issued the notification. The notification enumerates 17 Sindh ministers, eight special assistants to Sindh chief minister, two advisors to Sindh CM, three coordinators to Sindh CM who no more hold their offices now with the completion of the five-year term of the Sindh government.
Similarly, the Sindh Law Secretary Shariq Ahmed issued a notification for dissolution of 14th house of Sindh Assembly on completion of its five-year constitutional term. The notification states: “In pursuance to Article 107 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973, the Provincial Assembly of Sindh stands dissolved on the expiration of its term of five years on Monday the 28th of May, 2018.”
