Traffic management plan for Ramazan unveiled

LAHORE : In order to deal with traffic jams in Lahore, City traffic police has unveiled a traffic plan for the month of Ramazan.

As per the plan, two SPs, 11 DSPs, 38 senior traffic wardens, 62 patrolling officers and 2,000 traffic wardens will perform duty in two shifts during the month of Ramazan. Additional traffic police officials will also offer their services in Ramazan. Each year, especially in the month of Ramazan, citizens suffer due to traffic jams owing to the large number of vehicles in the city.

Lahore CTO directed the officers to be polite and courteous with the citizens and strict with the criminals and traffic violators. He directed them to keep vigil on suspects besides regulating the traffic around mosques, imambargahs, shopping markets and Ramazan bazaars.

ACCIDENT: A total 939 road traffic accidents were reported in the Provincial Monitoring Cell of the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all 37 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours; in which two lives were lost and 627 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts & tehsils. However, some 411 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were discharged on the spot after provision of first aid by Emergency Medical Teams.

Boy hit to death: An 11-year-old boy was killed by a speeding pickup van in Defence B area on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Sajan, a resident of Bedian Road, Defence B. The boy was on his way on a bicycle when a rashly-driven pickup van hit him, as a result of which, he received fatal injuries. The accused driver fled the scene. The injured boy was rushed to hospital where he died.

fire: Raw material and other goods worth millions of rupees were reduced to ashes when a fire broke out in a shoe factory in Nasir Park on Tuesday. The cause of fire was said to be short-circuit. On being informed, the firefighters rushed to the scene and extinguished fire after hectic efforts. No casualty was reported in the incident.

OPC meeting: Overseas Pakistanis are real ambassadors of the country and main purpose of establishing Overseas Pakistanis Commission (OPC), Punjab is to provide them a useful platform for resolving their issues.

This was observed during a department meeting chaired by the OPC Vice-Chairperson Senator Capt (R) Shaheen Khalid Butt here Tuesday. The meeting was informed that the OPC is working on fast track basis and 60 percent of the received complaints have been redressed so far and this has given confidence to the expatriates. The OPC is one window operation for resolution of the problems of Overseas Pakistanis and in this regard they can any time contact OPC, he added.
