National Book Foundation (NBF) has recently published a new book ‘Nairang-e-Ghazal’, having 784 pages with a tag price of Rs500. It has been compiled by renowned poet and scholar Khawar Ijaz who has many books on his credit, says a press release.
He is a well-known literary figure and headed Pakistan Haiku Society as its president for a long time. The book ‘Nairang-e-Ghazal’ contains three big eras of Urdu Ghazal, first the Classics from Wali Dakani to Momin Khan Momin, second from Shaifta to Hafeez Jallendhary and the last one from Baqi Siddiqi to Ahmad Faraz. The compiler has included the most-read poets of their time with their short introduction and 8-10 selected ‘ghazals’ of each poet. While selecting their poetry, Khawar Ijaz has touched the topics of love, live, feelings, deep thought, expectations, state of delight and sorrow. A few poets included in this book are: Mirza Ghalib, Meer Taqi Meer, Allama Iqbal, Kh. Meer Dard, Nazeer Akbar Abadi, Jurat, Insha, Ustaad Nasikh, Bahadur Shah Zafar, Maulana Hali, Fani Badayuni, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi, Nasir Kazmi, Munir Niazi, Mustafa Zaidi, Zameer Jaffery, Abdul Hameed Adam and many others.
Khawar Ijaz has written that the main purpose to compile this book is to bring people closer to Urdu poetry especially Urdu ‘ghazal’ and to promote reading of top level literature. He has done a commendable job by compiling this significant book. He has dedicated this book to Nadeem Hasan Asif, Federal Secretary and Administrator Islamabad Club stating that this book has been compiled on the wish of Mr. Nadeem.
This book is very useful, informative and educative for M.Phil/PhD students and teachers as well as research scholars the members of NBF Readers Club may have this book at 55% discount (Rs225 only).
