Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Thursday organised an extensive talk on Islam and scientific research in order to motivate its students to prove truth and realities of the religion on the basis of scientific study.
The talk was arranged by Department of Islamic Studies to underline the need of linking the Islamic knowledge with the latest scientific developments in various fields. It was part of ‘distinguished lecture series’ undertaken by the university to promote and disseminate research-based studies on matters of human-interest.
The talk was given by religious scholar, Prof. Dr. Mohyuddin Hashimi, who presented his comprehensive analysis on research methodology for proving of eternal realities of Islam. He said, “Deen-e-Islam is valid for all times to come and it is quite fixable in worldly affairs to meet needs of changing situation. In this connection, he referred to Islamic concept of ‘ijethad’.”
While presiding over the function, AIOU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said that religion and scientific research is closely linked with each other and there should be no confusion and misunderstanding in this connection. Quran and ‘Seerat-un-Nabi’ of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) attached great importance to the process of having in-depth thinking on the matters, faced by the human beings in their daily life, on basis of fundamental teachings of Islam and the latest scientific developments.” Islam lays greater emphasis on ‘Tafaqar’ to ascertain the facts and mould the life accordingly, he added.
He further said eternal teachings of Islam and the latest research-based knowledge should go side by side in order to ensure implementation of religion in practical life in a letter and spirit.
