Varsities asked to follow HEC rules

Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan Chairperson Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed Tuesday said that the universities and degree awarding institutes would have to follow the commission’s guidelines and criteria otherwise action would be taken against the violators. He was addressing a seminar “Nation building, education and role of media” at a local hotel. Journalist Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami presided over the seminar while Dr Mujahid Mansoori and other senior journalists were also present. Dr Mukhtar said HEC would not take action against universities/ institutes following its criteria and guidelines. He talked about efforts and initiatives by the HEC regarding promotion of higher education in Pakistan. The other speakers highlighted the role of media in promotion of education and nation building.
