CM for improved arrangements for monsoon

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that arrangements for possible flood and monsoon should be better than the previous year and he would personally monitor them regularly.
Addressing a meeting at Civil Secretariat through video link, he said the Cabinet Committee on Flood should ensure immediate implementation of decisions taken for coping with possible flood and warned that he would not tolerate any delay. Shahbaz Sharif said that all federal and provincial departments concerned should complete all precautionary arrangements for coping with possible floods. He said the Cabinet Committee on Flood should personally monitor protective arrangements by visiting various places. “The arrangements should be effective and comprehensive in all respects,” he said and directed that the weather situation and flow of water in the rivers should be monitored 24 hours and departments and institutions concerned should remain alert in view of the situation. He said that there should be complete preparation for meeting any emergency situation. He directed the Cabinet Committee on Flood to personally visit 13 places of the province and review arrangements. “Members of the committee should personally inspect protective bunds and spurs on rivers. The committee should also review the stock of medicines and the working condition of necessary equipment.” The chief minister directed officials concerned to immediately remove encroachments along nullahs and river beds and the district administration with the cooperation of police should take indiscriminate action. He said that there should be an effective system of data sharing between federal and provincial governments. He said there would be a third party audit of protective arrangements.
He said that he would not listen to lame excuses but wanted results. He said that boats, dewatering sets and other equipments should be hundred percent in working condition. He said that there should be an abundant stock of medicines, clean drinking water, fodder for livestock and other necessary items. He directed that the ongoing work for improving nullahs of Sialkot should be completed at the earliest.
Provincial Ministers Rana Sanaullah, Shuja Khanzada, Dr. Farrukh Javed, Yawar Zaman, Ch Muhammad Shafiq, Bilal Yasin, Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Advisor Health Kh. Salman Rafique, MPA Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Federal Secretary Railways, Chairman National Disaster Management Authority, Member Water WAPDA, DG Meteorological Department, Chairman Flood Commission, Additional Chief Secretary, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Chairman Chief Minister’s Inspection Team, Inspector General Police, concerned secretaries and senior officials of federal and provincial departments and institutions attended the meeting.

According to a handout issued on Saturday, he directed Adviser Health Kh. Salman Rafique and Provincial Secretary Health to investigate the incident.
