LAHORE
The Walled City Lahore Authority (WCLA) has planned to organise a mega photo walk event for students at its recently completed Royal Trail project.
Officials say the route of the event scheduled for April 11 will be from Delhi Gate to the Lahore Fort. The walk will start at 10 am and end at 2 pm. Attractions along the route include Delhi Gate, Shahi Hammam, Gali Surjan Singh, Haveli Dina Nath, Haveli Bejnath, Waan Market, Kasera Bazaar, Rang Mehal, Ayaz ka Maqbara, Bangle Market, Haveli Mian Sultan, Chitta Gate, Masjid Wazir Khan, Pani Wala Talaab, Haveli Awais Meer, Haveli Barood Khana, Lahore Fort and Fort Road Food Street.
They said the WCLA had been organising several activities related to photo tourism as the two practices (photography and tourism) were closely intertwined, each shaping and stimulating the other, with photography serving tourism as advertisement, commodity, instruction, and memento and tourism serving photography as subvention, vehicle, justification, and structuring activity especially in case of Walled City Lahore.
These activities have boosted the promotion and marketing of Walled City through social media and press. Photographs have promoted Walled City tourism when they appear in newspaper and magazine advertisements, in brochures, on billboards, websites, and social media and in television commercials.
Previously four photo walks and two photo contest “Wekh Lahore” have been held. With these activities, the WCLA has engaged more than 30,000 photographers from all over Pakistan and different countries.
Almost 26 universities from all over Punjab are participating in the event which will be the biggest photo walk ever held in Lahore. The registrations are more than of 600 photographers, officials say, adding that the purpose of this walk is to promote tourism and spread awareness among the youth regarding the heritage and culture of the Walled City of Lahore. The photographers will have an opportunity to explore the mystic streets of Walled City.
WCLA DG Kamran Lashari said the authority was trying to engage youth and students inside the walled city for promotion and tourism. Many among the new generation are unaware of the heritage and culture. Students are a big help in promoting and producing new ideas for the betterment of the tourism and its projection. WCLA Media manager Tania Qureshi said no such activity with students had ever been held by any organization. “This will create a good will among the universities as well increase awareness about the culture and heritage among the students and younger generation. This activity will also encourage students to work on the walled city of Lahore through their assignments and projects”, she concluded.
