LAHORE AROUND 826 professors, associate professors, assistant professors, and lecturers of Punjab University will cast their votes for PU’s Academic Staff Association (PUASA)’s elections which will be held today (Wednesday). The voting will be held at the Waheed Shaheed Hall of Institute of Education and Research from 8:00am to 4:00pm. According to a press release issued on Tuesday, the Teachers Front has nominated Hailey College of Commerce Principal Prof Dr Hasan Mobeen Alam for president, Vice-President Science Dr Faheem Aftab, Vice-President Arts Dr Abid Hussain Chaudhry, Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain, Joint Secretary Farhan Ahmed Chaudhry and Treasurer Dr Hafiz Moqeet Javed Bhatti. Teachers Alliance’s candidates for the slot of president are Institute of Chemistry’s Assistant Professor Dr Ehsan Sharif, Vice-President Science Dr Asmatullah, Vice-President Arts Iftikhar Ahmad Tarar, Secretary Javed Sami, Joint Secretary Dr Shahbaz Ahmed Cheema, and Treasurer Tariq Mahmood Butt. Faculty Strengthening Forum has fielded Dr Rana Eijaz Ahmad for president, Vice-President Science Dr Muhammad Usman Awan, Vice-President Arts Dr Abida Eijaz, Secretary Dr Bushra Rahman and Iffat Sayeed as treasurer. admission: Punjab University (PU) Examinations Department has notified that the last date for receiving the admission form and fee for the 1st Semester Examination 2015 of BS 4-Year Programme will be March 18, 2015. Meanwhile, the PU Examinations Department has issued the written and practical date-sheets for BA Annual Examination 2015 for the Hearing Impaired Students and Postgraduate Diploma in International Affairs annual examination 2014. Details are available on PU website www.pu.edu.pk. ‘Islam stresses knowledge’: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said acquiring knowledge of nature and creating new knowledge is obligatory for the Muslims. In a press statement issued here in connection with World Scientists’ Day, Dr Mujahid Kamran said around 750 verses of the Holy Quran, which is 1/8th of the holy book, directed man to study the mysteries of the universe and to carefully observe nature. He said unfortunately, the Muslims had made almost no contribution to the creation of scientific knowledge during the past few centuries which was the major reason for their weakness against the onslaught of knowledgeable nations. He concluded knowledge was the source of power, wealth and respect of nations.
