Two leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf from the city's Gizri area on Monday announced their decision to join the Pakistan People's Party in protest over the 'unjust selection of candidates' by the PTI for the upcoming local government elections.
The PTI leaders Muhammad Anwar Brohi and Muhammad Hafeez Brohi revealed their move at a press conference held at the Karachi Press Club with PPP Karachi Division President Syed Najmi Alam also present.
Voicing displeasure over the PTI's affairs, the political leaders from the Brohi community maintained that the party which had started off as one looking out for the interests of the poor had become nothing more than a party for the rich. They asserted that the PTI had failed to award tickets to any worker from an underprivileged background, citing Gizri's Union Council No 30 as an example where the PTI had "unduly colluded with Jamaat-e-Islami for awarding of tickets to prospective candidates".
PPP's Najmi Alam, in his talk, said Anwar and Hafeez Brohi's decision would surely benefit the PPP in the LG polls as the Gizri area comprised a large vote bank of the PTI. He said the PPP had always been and would remain a political party focused on the poorer sections of society and welcomed the two Brohi community leaders to do their bit to further the party's mission.
