Agreement signed for online medical education

The University of Health Sciences (UHS) of Lahore and PharmEvo, a private pharmaceutical company, have signed a Memorandum of Understating (MoU) for Online Continuing Medical Education (CME) portal to initiate CME/CDE courses for the healthcare professionals to build up their professional capacity.
This public-private partnership in the field of medical education is the first such activity in the country which will go a long way in updating the knowledge of healthcare professionals to improve patient care.
Speaking at the formal MoU signing ceremony, held at the Karachi Press Club on Monday, Director Medical Affairs of PharmEvo Dr Masood Jawaid said this state of the art online education portal in health education would utilise latest educational technologies and courses would be designed according to online educational theories, making them different from traditional ones.
He said different technologies would be used for course development, including flash simulation scenarios, interactive videos, interactive flash presentations, online discussion forums and quizzes, which would make sure the involvement and engagement of participants.
Chief Operating Officer PharmEvo Syed Jamshed Ahmed stated that it was no more a new phenomenon in the present world.
He said 12 online CME courses provided by the Canadian Medical Association were developed in collaboration with multinational pharmaceutical company.
Ahmed said this was a unique initiative taken by the UHS in the country to improve education, patient care and the society at large.
UHS Vice Chancellor Major General (R) Prof Muhammad Aslam said that iLearn would close the gap between expert faculty and all health care providers of the country.
