The Sindh Police during the current year has arrested 5,428 criminals from five most populated cities, Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad during encounters and raids.
Besides, 116 criminals were also killed in 464 encounters while out of the total arrests, 330 were caught red-handed.
This was stated in a detailed report presented to the Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Hyder Jamali on Wednesday.
It was said that the Sindh Police and Rangers had worked together to eliminate 175 criminal gangs while 15 patharedars (those sheltering criminals) were also arrested.
Out of the total suspects arrested, 450 were said to be proclaimed offenders, 2,983 absconders, 1,609 street criminals, 11 extortionists, 15 terrorists, five kidnappers and three target killers.
Weapons were also recovered during the raids and encounters. According to the report, the seized weapons included G3 rifles, MP5s, SMGs, Kalashnikovs, shotguns, repeaters, rifles, pistols, revolvers, mousers and bullets.
Besides, three suicide jackets, rocket launcher, two locally-made bombs, 67 hand grenades and two detonators were also seized.
The Sindh police chief while reviewing the report said indiscriminate action had to be taken against criminals for restoration of law and order in the city and all parts of the province.
