Two students ended up behind bars at the Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station on Thursday after they tried to have their coaching centre shutdown by sending a threat note.
The arrest of the teenage boys, 17-year-old Moazzam Siddiqui and 18-year-old Wudood Ahmed, was announced by SSP East Pir Muhammad Shah at a news conference at his office.
“Moazzam and Wudood are both students of the Rahnuma Coaching Center in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. They had written a letter to the management to close down the centre today and warned of dire consequences if their request was not fulfilled,” said Shah.
He said the students had tried to make it look like a threat from the Peoples Aman Committee. “The administration immediately informed us and the boys were arrested after being identified in CCTV footage,” said SSP Shah, “They confessed to the act and claim that it was just meant as a harmless prank.”
Gulistan-e-Jauhar SHO Aijaz Rajpar said a complaint had been registered against both students under Section 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which relates to punishment for criminal intimidation.
He said the crime committed by the students was a non-cognisable and bailable offence that carries a maximum punishment of two years imprisonment with a fine.
