The Sindh government is planning to designate a specific location in the city for holding sit-ins and protest demonstrations and a proposal in this regard is pending before the chief minister Qaim Ali Shah.
This was stated by Sindh local government and information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Monday.
He was responding to remarks that sit-ins had become a matter of routine and caused a great deal of inconvenience to residents and commuters.
Memon said a code of conduct was being devised in this regard and a location will be fixed where protesters could gather and raise their demands.
He said everyday protests were a serious matter for the government which already had its hands full with maintaining law and order situation in the city.
However, Memon said that before tabling any kind of legislation, the government will first consult with religious and political parties.
PPP Senator Saeed Ghani also agreed that daily protests, which kept the MA Jinnah Road blocked at least three days a week, proved to be serious nuisance for the citizens.
He said not only in Karachi, but a designated location for protests and demonstrations should be created for every city in the province.
