SMIU inducts teachers through NTS aptitude test

The Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) has inducted about 25 lecturers through tests under National Testing Service (NTS), an official of the institute said on Thursday.
The university has become the first public sector university to have hired teachers after a comprehensive selection process that included clearance of NTS test and evaluation of lecturing skills by the varsity’s selection board, he mentioned.
The SMIU invited applications for the positions of lecturers, as well as, administration positions.
A large number of candidates applied for the positions and they were subject to a written test conducted by the NTS.
The top scorers of the test were invited for interviews by the selection board, comprising former Supreme Court judges Justice (rRetd) Rana Bagwandas and Justice (retd) Syed Deedar Hussain Shah, in addition to former secretary cabinet division AW Qazi, former additional chief secretary Sindh Wasim Ahmed and experts of the respective subjects.
SMIU Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh, chaired the board meetings which lasted for about nine days, the varsity official further said.
He said the candidates were selected on the basis of their scores in the NTS test, their teaching skills and interviews.
Shaikh congratulated them and said that training programme for the teachers had been arranged in collaboration with the British Councill, in order to further improve and polish their teaching skills.
