‘Pakistan needs to improve Kashmir policy’

LAHORE: Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Ch Abdul Majid said on Friday that Pakistani government and people had made great sacrifices for Kashmir but there was a need to improve the foreign policy.
Addressing a seminar “Kashmir Issue: Past and Future” organised by Punjab University’s Pakistan Study Centre (PSC) at the university on Friday, he urged media to revise its policy on Kashmir saying Pakistani TV channels treated rickshaw accident as breaking news but were not raising the voice against the violations of human rights and Indian cruelties in Indian-held Kashmir.
The premier of AJK also said the Indian government hanged Afzal Guru till death to please its nation but our Foreign Office remained silent. He said Kashmiri people would pay any cost for the integrity of Pakistan because Kashmiris loved Pakistan. He said unfortunately Pakistani nation had been divided into various groups and people must unite for the stability of Pakistan. He added the solution to Kashmir issue was connected with the integrity in Pakistan.
PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran presided over the ceremony while MNA and Member Kashmir Committee Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Former Foreign Secretary Shamshad Ahmad Khan, Quaid-e-Azam University’s Prof Dr Nazir Hussain, Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof Dr Massarrat Abid, faculty members, and a large number of students were also present.
The AJK PM also said the newly setup of Kashmir Cell at Punjab University would bring Indian brutalities in Held Kashmir to the world. He also announced Rs two million grant for the cell to organise conferences.
He added that all the parties in Kashmir were united for their right to self-determination and get independence from the illegal Indian possession of the territory. Ch Abdul Majid said Hindus were being settled in Held Kashmir under a conspiracy adding India was also changing the course of rivers to deprive Pakistan of water and electricity. He said that unfortunately Pakistani nation, especially young people, were unaware of Kashmir issue.
He said the AJK government was focusing on education and universities, medical colleges and other academic institutions were being set up. He also stressed the need for students and faculty exchange among the universities of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mujahid Kamran declared Kashmir vital for the stability of Pakistan. He said PU had set up Kashmir Cell to do academic research on Indian atrocities in Held Kashmir and bring it to the notice of the world. He said the nations who did not prepare for wars were destroyed and the knowledge empowered nations.
Shamshad Ahmed Khan also urged more practical steps for the freedom of Kashmir and unity among the political leadership of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir for building more pressure on Indian leadership.
Prof Dr Nazir Hussain discussed the agonies of the divided families on both sides of the Line of Control. He said there was no household in Held Kashmir without a martyr in family. He pointed out the highhandedness of India in the Kashmir dispute.
Nasir Iqbal Bosal indicated the efforts made by the government for the solution to the dispute. He assured committee’s full support to the Kashmir Cell in conducting research activities on Kashmir. Prof Dr Massarrat Abid also spoke.
