MALAKWAL: A woman died while five others sustained injuries in separate road accidents near Miana Gondal on Saturday night.Tayyab of Miana Gondal and his sister-in-law Fauzia were on their way home by a bike when a speeding motorcycle driving by Javed collided with their vehicle near Dera Bakhu Ana. As a result, Fauzia, Tayyab and Javed were injured. They were being shifted to a hospital but Fauzia died on the way. In another incident, the bikes of Amir, Ali Hassan and Sohail Imran collided with each other on Faqirian Road. As a result, Amir, Ali and Sohail were injured.

Militant commander killed in Bajaur clash
KHAR: A militant commander was killed in a clash with security forces in Salarzai Tehsil in Bajaur Agency, official sources said on Sunday.The sources said that the militant identified as Muhammad Islam was killed in the exchange of fire in Malkana village in Salarzai Tehsil. He was wanted to security forces.

Tribesmen seek removal of barricades

BARA: The residents of Akkhakhel area in Bara subdivision in Khyber Agency asked the Peshawar Corps Commander and Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to order reopening of the link roads leading to villages and other populated areas.“We have been facing problems when the security forces closed the Karapa Sultankhel road on the Frontier Road for two months,” said Muhammad Khan.

1,670 families shifted to safer places in Badgam
ISLAMABAD: Large scale evacuation took place in the landslide prone village of Badgam district following torrential rains which led to death of 16 persons in the district and brought the valley on the brink of second flood in seven months.“1670 families comprising 11,236 souls have been evacuated to safer places in seven blocks of the district,” said a senior district official, reported KMS. Badgam comprises 502 revenue villages out of which 88 villages spread in seven blocks, mostly located on slopes or hillocks, have been marked in red zone owing to apprehensions of landslides. The district was one of the worst affected in weeklong rainfall across Kashmir.

Burney hails evacuation of stranded Pakistanis from Sanaa
KARACHI: The Chairman of Ansar Burney Trust International Ansar Burney has thanked the government for sending a PIA plane to Sanaa (Yemen) for rescuing the stranded Pakistanis, including women and children, says a press release on Sunday. Burney said that even after several threats, the PIA plane landed in Sanaa on Sunday to evacuate the remaining Pakistanis stranded in Sanaa and rescued 133. Earlier, Ansar Burney had requested President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zakaullah to send a direct flight to Sanaa as early as possible to rescue and evacuate Pakistanis stranded in Yemen. Ansar Burney also thanked the chief of the naval staff on sending Pakistan Navy vessel which departed from Alsheher on Saturday with the rescued Pakistanis and is expected to reach Pakistan in next 48 hours. The navy frigate has 148 Pakistanis on board, as well as 35 foreign nationals.

Abbottabad doctors reject biometric system of attendance

ABBOTTABAD: Doctors have rejected the biometric system of attendance and vowed to continue their duties according to previous protocols in the district. The announcement was made by representatives of Provincial Doctors Association (PDA), Young Doctors Association (YDA), People’s Doctors Forum (PDF), Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) & Malgari Doctaran here on Sunday. PDF information secretary Dr Daud Iqbal, on behalf of the doctor community, told the newsmen that at a joint meeting, the members of various associations unanimously rejected the newly introduced biometric system of attendance at hospitals, including Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad. He said that doctors’ duty hours were not defined and they have to be on call 24 hours while the biometric system is confined to office-hours only. The performance of doctors should be evaluated through their output, rather attendance, he added. He said administration of the Ayub Medical College and Hospital had conveyed reservations of doctors to authorities and said that being the stakeholders they should be taken into confidence on the issue.

Bomb hoax panics residents of Naurang town

LAKKI MARWAT: A bomb hoax panicked residents of Naurang town on Sunday. According to officials and eyewitnesses, two suspected bags lying near the police station building in Naurang town created panic as the people thought that the bags might contain explosives. Some locals spotted two bags on the Bannu-Dera Ismail Khan Road near Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak Police Station and informed the police. The police immediately reached the place, removed the people and called bomb disposal unit officials. The residents took a sigh of relief when BDU experts checked the bags and found no explosives. They later returned to their houses and shops. It is believed that both bags might have fallen from a passenger vehicle travelling between Bannu and DI Khan.

Govt appoints Muhammad Safdar as RO at ECO HQ

ISLAMABAD: Director General Immigration and Passports and Project Director Machine Readable Passports Project Muhammad Safdar has been designated as Research Officer of Trade Investment with 10-countires Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), headquartered in Tehran. Muhammad Safdar who is known for hard work and uprightness as an officer would be moving to Iranian capital next month. The government of Pakistan has allowed him to proceed for the new prestigious assignment. In the meanwhile the federal government has started searching replacement for Muhammad Safdar. It is likely that new Director General would be appointed in a couple of days. Muhammad Safdar who has splendid academic record has specialisation in economy.

Mustafa Kanju unable to produce licence of Kalashnikov

LAHORE: Accused Mustafa Kanju has not been able to produce the licence of a Kalashnikov he used to kill a teenager student, Zain. The man from which the accused acquired the weapon is also being investigated. Police suspected the weapon might have been used at other instances where people might have been injured or killed. It was further learnt that the accused had trained the gun at his brother over a property issue around three months back. He also manhandled Wapda officials some time back.Meanwhile, the investigating officer said that Husnain, who had sustained wounds at the hands of Mustafa, stuck to his initial statement that Mustafa had shot and wounded him and Zain.

Five injured in Lahore roof collapse

LAHORE: Five persons received injuries when the roof of an under construction house collapsed in Samanabad on Sunday. Upon being informed, rescuers rushed to the scene and started an operation. The rescuers pulled five persons out of the debris and rushed them to a local hospital where their condition was said to be out of danger. Two out of the five injured persons were identified as Rashid and Ashraf.

Religious scholar calls for peaceful solution to Yemen crisis

HARIPUR: Aalmi Tanzeem Ahl-e-Sunnat chief Pir Muhammad Afzal Qadri has said that the current situation in Yemen is part of an international conspiracy against the Muslims and called for a peaceful solution to the crisis. Talking to reporters, Qadri expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in Yemen and its implications on the region, particularly on Pakistan, and urged the government to stay away from the conflict and make efforts for a peaceful resolution. He said some media persons were maligning the Tanzeem Ahl-e-Sunnat and accusing it of provoking Sunni and Shia sects on the conflict, but added that his party leadership believed in a peaceful resolution of the issue. However, he made it clear that protection of the holy places in Saudi Arabia was the religious duty of every Muslim. The leader said that Pakistan should avoid becoming a party to a conflict that could divide the Ummah.

Brother confesses to killing JUP Okara district leader

OKARA: A man confessed to killing his brother, who was also the JUP district general secretary, with the help of his family and relatives. JUP’s district general secretary, Shahzad Anjum Ansari, was murdered about a week ago. After the incident, the family members of the deceased disappeared and police started doubting their involvement in the murder. On Sunday, police raided an area and arrested deceased’s brother Ghulam Rasool and his relative Amir. During interrogation, Ghulam Rasool confessed to committing the crime with the help of his two brothers, father and relative Amir. He said that they had killed Ansari over a property dispute.

JUI-S wants Pak role in peace restoration in Muslim world

NOWSHERA: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) chief Maulana Samiul Haq on Sunday asked the government to play its role for the restoration of peace in the Muslim world. Speaking at a party meeting at the Darul Uloom Haqania in Akora Khattak, the JUI-S chief said that it was the responsibility of the Muslim rulers to bring the warring parties in the Arab world to the negotiating table and foil the conspiracy against Islam. The meeting also discussed the party’s preparation for the upcoming local bodies elections and decided that the JUI-S would participate in the elections. It also hinted at forming an electoral alliance with other political parties.

Six-year-old orphan raped

BAHAWALPUR: A six-year-old orphan girl of Dhanoot, Lodhran, was raped by a 30-year-old vagabond on Sunday. The victim was under treatment at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital. Dhanoot SHO Zafar Iqbal said that accused Khuda Yar Kumhar was arrested after registration of a case on the report of the victim’s uncle Mushtaq Ahmad.
