Hindko language dept demanded in Hazara varsities
HARIPUR: The government should set up a department for Hindko language studies in all the public sector universities of Hazara division besides declaring the language as compulsory from primary to the high school level.
This was the crux of speeches of a seminar that the Society for Peace and Conflict Management (SPACM) University of Haripur organised the seminar to mark the International Mother Language day at University of Haripur here on Thursday.
Students from different departments, faculty member scholars, writers and local poets attended the event.
SPACM Chairman Dr Abdul Muhaiman briefed the audience on the importance of the globally observed Mother Language Day and the role of SPACM in the promotion of languages.
Speaking on the topic of the history of languages and their ethnic affinities, Sadaqat Khan, a noted writer and human rights activist, said that Hindko was basically an Indo-Aryan language and its history was 3000 to 3500 years old.
He said the origin of Hindko has a close relation with Prakrit, Lahnda and Pashto languages.
Talking about the findings of census 2017 on the regional languages, he said Hindo was the second largest language of the KP province.
He eulogized the efforts of poets and researchers from Hazara and Peshawar valley for the Hindko promotion work.
Journalist and poet Muhammad Younas Majaz, Syed Nazeer Hussain Kasailvi, Javed Amman and Muhammad Irshad Khan Utmanzai presented Hindko poetry at the end of the seminar and won applause from the audience.
