President, PM, others condole death of Allama Iqbal’s son

LAHORE: Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, son of renowned poet-philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal, passed away after protracted illness at the age of 90 here on Saturday.
He is survived by his two sons Waleed and Munib Iqbal and wife Justice (retd) Nasira Iqbal, a former Lahore High Court (LHC) judge.
His funeral prayer was offered at 4:00pm in the Gulberg area of Lahore. The funeral prayer was attended by Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Chief Justice LHC Manzoor Ahmed Malik, judges of the superior courts, leaders of different parties and a large number of other people.
The late Justice Javed Iqbal was born in October, 1924 in Sialkot. He obtained BA (honours) degree from the Government College Lahore in 1944, masters degrees in English and philosophy in 1948, and PhD degree in philosophy from the University of Cambridge in 1954 at the age of 30.
He then pursued his passion for law, graduating as a barrister in London.
The former justice participated thrice as a member of the Pakistani delegation to the United Nations.
Justice Javed Iqbal served as a senior justice at the Supreme Court of Pakistan and as the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) from March 1982 to October 1986.
Justice Javed Iqbal penned several books on the ideology of Pakistan.
President Mamnoon Hussain expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the death of Justice Javed Iqbal. The president said that his services in the legal field and for the cause of justice would always be remembered.
“His contributions in the fields of philosophy and education are memorable and his death is a great loss to the country and nation,” he added.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Justice Javed Iqbal.
The prime minister prayed eternal peace for the departed soul and commiserated with the bereaved family.
He said Justice Javed Iqbal in his life rendered great legal and literary services for the country.
“We have lost an intellectual, great jurist and a true Pakistani,” the prime minister said in his condolence message.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, PTI chief Imran Khan and former president Asif Ali Zardari also expressed heartfelt grief over the death of Justice Javed Iqbal and prayed for eternal rest of the departed soul.
