WASHINGTON: Terming the terrorist attack on the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) camp in the Badaber area of Peshawar as horrible and reprehensible, the United States said on Saturday it stands by the people of Pakistan that have suffered at the hands of terrorists and extremists more than any other country.
During a media briefing in Washington, the US State Department Spokesman Mark Toner said the condemnable and horrific attack was apparently aimed at worshippers, especially the families of Pakistan Air Force officials.
“We strongly condemn this attack and express profound grief with families and relatives of the dead and injured,” said Toner.
He said Washington backs Islamabad’s ongoing efforts against extremists, however, the attack couldn’t be declared as a backlash to those efforts. Toner said US expresses solidarity with the people of Pakistan and all those fighting against terrorism.
“The fact that this attack was apparently directed against people worshipping in a mosque and targeted the families of those who serve in the Pakistani military is particularly reprehensible,” he said, adding that the US stood in solidarity with the people of Pakistan and all who were fighting the menace of terrorism.
Meanwhile, the United Nations also condemned the terrorist attack on the PAF camp in Peshawar.
In a statement from New York, Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq also offered condolences to the government and the people of Pakistan.
