LAHORE: The population in Sindh province swelled by 81.5 percent while the number of households also surged by 83.9 percent from 1998 to 2011, according to preliminary results of house listing 2011.

 

The population of the province increased from 30,439,893 in 1998 to 55,245,497 in 2011, showing an 81.5% increase while the number of households went up from 4,997,134 to 9,191,907, an increase of 83.9%, the data revealed.

 

According to data, population of Jacobabad district of the province increased from 741,910 to 1,568,651 (111.4%), Kashmor from 683,662 to 1,206,772 (76.5%), Shikarpur from 880,438 to 1,347,414 (53.0%), Larkana from 1,002,772 to1,563,040 (55.9%), Shahdadkot from 924,294 to 1,487,770 (61.0%), Sukkur from 908,373 to 1,383,124 (52.3%), Ghotki from 970,549 to 1,511,635 (55.8%), Khairpur from 1,546,587 to 2,320,526 (50.0%), Naushahro Feroze from 1,087,571 to 1,621,780 (49.1%), Shaheed Banazirabad from 1,071,533 to 1,585,447 (48.0%) and Dadu from 1,106,717 to 2,074,433 (87.4%).

 

Similarly, the population of Jamshoro increased from 582,094 to 1,176,969 (102.2%), Hyderabad from 1,494,866 to 3,429,471 (129.4%), Matiari from 504,001 to 738,322 (46.5%), Tando Allahyr from 483,769 to 771,628 (59.5%), Tando Muhammad Khan from 408,852 to 619,886 (51.6%), Badin from 1,136,044 to 1,840,620 (62.0%), Thatta from 1,113,194 to 1,819,132 (63.4%), Sanghar from 1,453,028 to 1,905,188 (31.1%), Mirpur from 905,935 to 1,483,498 (63.8%), Umerkot from 663,095 to 953,984 (43.9%), Tharparkar from 914,291 to 1,693,582 (85.2%) and Karachi from 9,856,318 to 21,142,625 (114.5%). The number of households in the province increased from 4,997,134 in 1998 to 9,191,907 in 2011, showing an increase of 83.9%.

 

According to break-up figures, the number of household in Jacobabad district increase from 121,424 to 234,954 (93.5%), Kashmor from131,289 to 220,820 (68.2%), Shikarpur from 149,758 to 257,020 (71.6%), Larkana from 166,327 to 292,665 (76.0%), Shahdadkot from 161,736 to 283,861 (75.5%), Sukkur from 138,595 to 252,631 (82.3%), Ghotki from 177,432 to 295,024 (66.3%), Khairpur from 255,261 to 446,723 (75.0%), Naushahro Feroze from 187,988 to 297,358 (58.2%), Shaheed Banazirabad from 137,512 to 293,107 (113.2%) and Dadu from 203,758 to 365,416 (79.3%). Similarly, the number of households in Jamshoro district increased from 101,358 to 208,683 (105.9%), Hyderabad from 229,377 to 510,764 (122.7%), Matiari from 72,953 to 145,407 (99.3%), Tando Allahyr from 104,030 to 150,846 (45.0%), Tando Muhammad Khan from 72,741 to 131,133 (80.3%), Badin from 211,354 to 387,208 (83.2%), Thatta from 220,068 to 360,263 (63.7%), Sanghar from 251,195 to 367,412 (46.3%), Mirpur from 148,470 to 277,969 (87.2%), Umerkot from 122,335 to 199,601 (63.2%), Tharparkar from 163,147 to 300,078 (83.9%) and in Karachi from 1,469,026 to 2,912,964 (98.3%).

 

The average household size in the province decreased from 6.1 in 1998 to 6.0 in 2011, the data revealed.

 

The average size of households in Shikarpur decreased from 5.9 to 5.2, Larkana from 6.0 to 5.3, Shahdadkot from 5.7 to 5.2, Sukkur from 6.6 to 5.5, Ghotki from 5.5 to 5.1, Khairpur from 6.1 to 5.2, Naushahro Feroze from 5.8 to 5.5, Shaheed Banazirabad from 7.8 to 5.4, Jamshoro from 5.7 to 5.6, Matiari from 6.9 to 5.1,Tando Muhammad Khan from 5.6 to 4.7, Badin from 5.4 to 4.8, Thatta from 5.1 to 5.0, Sanghar from 5.8 to 5.2, Mirpur from 6.1 to 5.3 while the average household size in Umerkot decreased from 5.4 to 4.8.

 

The district where the average size of households witnessed increase included Jacobabad where the household increased from 6.1 to 6.7, Kashmor from 5.2 to 5.5, Dadu from 5.4 to 5.7, Hyderabad from 6.5 to 6.7, Tando Allahyar from 4.7 to 5.1, and Karachi where the household size increased from 6.7 to 7.3.

 

Tharparkar is the only district of the province where the average size of households remained unchanged at 5.6, according to data.According to the housing listing 2011 data, average annual growth in population from 1998 to 2011 remained 4.66 in the province.

 

According to details, the average annual growth in Jacobabad remained 5.89, in Kashmor 4.44, Shikarpur 3.31, Larkana 3.45, Shahdadkot 3.71, Sukkur 3.27, Ghotki 3.44, Khairpur 3.15, Naushahro Feroze 3.10, Shaheed Banazirabad 3.04, Dadu 4.92, Jamshoro 5.53, Hyderabad 6.55, Matiari 2.96, Tando Allahyar 3.63, Tando Muhammad Khan 3.23, Badin 3.76, Thatta 3.83, Sanghar 2.09, Mirpur 3.84, Umerkot 2.82, Tharparkar 4.83 and in Karachi it remained 6.01 during the period.
