After 9/11, the need for active NCC (National Cadet Corps) training was strongly felt but in 2002 it was discontinued during the Musharraf regime for unknown reasons. No one can deny the advantages of a NCC-trained youth force. Our youth can be trained on first aid activities, use of weapons, coping with emergencies and tackling enemies – both internal and external. The younger generation can also be imparted training on chemical and biological warfare.
NCC is the second line of defence in war-like scenarios as well as in rescue work in case of disasters like floods. After the 18th Amendment, all the four provinces should consider reviving NCC activities in schools, colleges and universities. This will also make educational institutions safe and secure.
