According to rough estimates, Pakistan has over 8,000 PhDs. This makes the highly qualified people a tiny minority considering the size of our population. The figure also points to our enthusiasm towards doing hard, research work.
Since minority communities and women gain representation in parliament through reserved seats, we should also reserve some seats for this highly qualified minority and make it a part of the electoral reforms agreed between the government and opposition parties. It is time highly qualified professionals were given representation in parliament. That will certainly go a long way in improving legislation.
