Two Corolla car gang members killed in Malir shootout

Two members of a notorious Afghan Corolla car gang were killed and another was arrested in alleged encounter with police in Malir on Monday.

Ferozabad SHO Aurangzaib Khattak said police personnel were busy with routine snap-checking when they signalled five suspects roaming in a Corolla car in Ferozabad to pull over. The car occupants opened fire at the police in a bid to escape.

The cops gave a chase and continued pursuing the suspects on Sharea Faisal. An encounter took place when the suspects were taking a U-turn near Malir 15. Two of the suspects were injured and another was caught during the encounter. Their accomplices managed to flee under the cover of fire.

The SHO and another policeman, Momin, were also slightly injured during the encounter. The casualties were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where they were identified as Juma Khan and Naimat, while the injured person as Mahmood.

The police claimed seizing three pistols along with rounds and a mini-Kalashnikov with rounds from the gang membes. They also impounded the car. Police said Khan had earlier been arrested in 2017 on charges of dacoity in Ferozabad. They said the suspects belonged to an Afghan gang.

Man killed over Rs5,000

A man was killed and a minor boy wounded in a shooting that occurred over a monetary dispute in District Korangi.

Awami Colony police said a quarrel erupted between 30-year-old Fida Muhammad, son of Azad Khan and another man over a dispute over Rs5,000. During the exchange of heated arguments, the other man opened fire, injuring Fida and a minor boy. The casualties were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Fida succumbed to his injuries while 12-year-old Akbar, son of Qasim, remained under treatment.
