HR ministry gets little budget raise

Islamabad : The human rights ministry will receive Rs279 million funds from the federal government for development projects in the next financial year compared with the outgoing year's Rs256 million.

According to the 2021-22 budget documents, Rs225.6 million has been earmarked for 10 ongoing schemes and Rs53.6 million for three new ones in 2021-22.

If the ongoing schemes to be funded next fiscal, Rs36 million will go to the Human Rights Awareness Programme, Rs30 million each to Implementation of Action Plan for Human Rights, Rs29.3 million to the establishment of Human Rights Information System, Rs26.5 to the strengthening of Regional Directorates of Human Rights in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta, Rs20.5 million to the upgradation of the National Special education Centre for Visually Handicapped Children Islamabad and Rs20 million to Pilot Project for Inclusive Education for Children with Disability in Public Private Schools in Islamabad.

Rs20 million has been allocated for the project of Human Rights Coordination and Monitoring Units for National Mechanism for Reporting and Fellow-Up, Rs20 million for the project of Institutional Strengthening of the ministry, Rs7.5 million for PC-11/ Feasibility Study for Establishment of Centre for Person with Disabilities in public and private schools in Islamabad and Rs15.8 million for the Pilot Project for Establishment of transgender Protection Centre Islamabad.

Ad for new schemes, Rs25 million will be doled out for the establishment of Planning and Monitoring Unit (PMU) at the ministry, Rs23.6 million for the establishment of Sub- Office of Human Rights at merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rs5 million for the project of Establishment of Project Planning and Monitoring Unit at the ministry.
